Aunties You know how it is with Aunties. You
have some that are really related to you, like your mum's sister or
your dad's sister, who come at christmas and bring your cousins. You
have the Great Ones that are your grandparents' sisters who wear hats
inside the house and always give you money when they leave. Then you have the really special ones that are friends of your parents, who YOU choose to call Auntie and love to bits.Well this story is about one of those Aunties, a very, very, special one. She's
the kind of Auntie you go to see, or who comes to see you, and makes
you feel happy, spends all her time with you, and helps you feel really
good about yourself. When it's time to leave, the day seems to
have whizzed by and you don't want to part, but you know that you'll
see her another day and it'll be just as much fun, and be something to
look forward to.So here she is, that very special Auntie, Auntie Clootie.
Why is she called Clootie? I bet you can guess!
She can
do just about everything you could imagine, but her clootie dumpling is
the BEST EVER!!!! She puts old sixpences in it as well as other
mysterious things, like a little ring and a horseshoe and a thimble.
You can't spend the money or do anything with the trinkets. You can
only keep them and remember, Remember the things you did, the songs you
sang, and the fun you had on the day you unwrapped that precious little
gem which seemed so magically to jump out of your helping of steaming
hot dumpling.
